Max Kennel began serving as Pastor of Hamilton Mennonite Church in Fall 2024, bringing with him a deep passion for understanding how Anabaptist history and Mennonite theology can speak to the conflicts of values that animate our world. His background in ministry comes from several churches in the Mennonite Church of Eastern Canada (including the Rainham Mennonite Church and the Steinmann Mennonite Church), and his academic training is from Conrad Grebel University College (MTS, 2015) and McMaster University (PhD in Religious Studies, 2021).
His experiences in factory work, medical education, writing, publishing, and ministry have taught him that the bonds of connection and trust that we form in communities can help both our spiritual lives and mental health in a world that struggles with too much polarization and too much neutrality. He also loves poodles, ramen, and hardcore music. Please feel free to reach out to Pastor Max at pastor@hmc.on.ca
