In Advent we wait to celebrate the incarnation - in the birth of Jesus, God made a home here, with us, one of us! And with us, with our hands and feet, God can still make a home, make safety, make peace, for our neighbours who are calling out for these things.
Access to housing is the primary social determinant of health. HATS is a practical, short-term response to the overwhelming housing crisis in our communities. Like initiatives in at least 9 other North American communities, HATS provides warm, safe, and temporary tiny shelters – with supports – for those experiencing homelessness in Hamilton.
This Advent, our church will support HATS’ efforts to create home and community for our neighbours experiencing homelessness. Each tiny shelter costs $5000 to build. HATS is currently fundraising for 10 shelters, plus additional infrastructure costs. To learn more here about HATS, click here. Also check out the October report of HMC Peace & Justice Committee.

Every Sunday of Advent (Nov 27-Dec 18) we will collect donations in the service. You can also donate by mailed cheques, e-transfers (finance@hmc.on.ca), pre-authorized giving, and through CanadaHelps (select “Advent Giving Project”).
